My Story: Where is my I-94?

“My name is Terlaie from the Federated States of Micronesia, and I need my I-94. I arrived to the United States on June 16, 2000. I have not left the United States since I arrived. I currently live in Kansas. I am a husband and father to three beautiful children. On March 14, 2021, my house caught fire. I lost my I-94, passport, and social security card. Since my house caught fire, I have tirelessly made efforts to obtain a copy of my I-94. In May 2021, I submitted a Freedom of Information Act request requesting a copy of my I94 because my I-94 can’t be obtained online. To date, not only have I not received my I-94, I haven’t received a response to my request. It’s now been over 3 months. My driver’s license expires in November 2021, and I need a social security card for employment purposes. The DMV informed me that my I-94 is required to renew my driver’s license. And I need my I-94 to obtain a new social security card. I need help obtaining my I94. Where is my I-94?”

I came to the United States (U.S.) in 1999 and never left. At the time, I was given a paper I-94 and was able to find and maintain employment. Unfortunately, I lost my I-94 around the year 2004. I have been without my I-94 for 17 years now. I had called the FSM Embassy in D.C. to look up my passport number (which was associated with me when I first arrived to the U.S.) in their data base. I was told they had nothing on file. Without my passport number, I cannot search for my I-94 on the CBP website and submit a FOIA request. I am required to show proof of my I-94 to be employed. I have suffered from unemployment since losing my I-94. Without it my workplace will not allow me to return. I need to work to provide for myself and my family. I need help. Where is my I-94?
